ORIGINS OF LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction was invented relatively recently, in the 1970's in Italy by an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, and was developed further in France by an obstetrician and a general surgeon and later on dermatologists adopted this technique. Plastic surgeons learned to use Liposuction relatively late, compared to the other specialists.
The first Liposuction was performed in the USA in 1982 by an ENT specialist and a significant improvement in Liposuction occurred when Dr. Klein (a dermatologist ) in the USA and others in Europe demonstrated the advantages in performing this procedure under a dilute local anesthetic (Tumescent anesthesia). Other technologies were invented to make Liposuction less traumatic on the body, causing less bleeding, bruising and other complications and improving results.
